Brother's Vocation
Brothers in the Confraternity of Christ the Priest share the same calling to our particular way of life and missionary approach as the ministerial priests, namely; to work for the spiritual welfare of the millions of people who perhaps have drifted away from God through indifferentism or who have never had the opportunity of hearing His loving message of hope and salvation on a personal level. These men, who having been called by God, choose to dedicate their lives to Him by the evangelical councils of poverty, chastity and obedience. They work alongside their brother priests to give practical support in whatever manner the situation requires.
Apart from their community life, this support is chiefly given in providing finance and financial help with the missionary work of outreach. In this way, brothers may follow the trade or profession they would have undertaken had they not joined the Confraternity. This could mean they would work as accountants, electricians, business consultants, carpenters, chefs, farmers and in many other occupations. This work could be undertaken either at an outside site, such as a workshop, office or factory, or it could be within one of the projects of the Confraternity, such as the establishment of a new parish, by assisting in the construction of a new church, convent, school, parish centre or presbytery. It could be by managing a farming property owned by the Confraternity as a means of raising finance. It could be by working in a parish as an accountant, business manager, property manager. It could be by working in a pastoral team of priests and brothers in a parish undergoing the Intensive Apostolate by assisting in the visitation of homes - a vital part of this apostolate - or by running youth clubs or any other way in which the smooth running of the enterprise could be assisted.
Young men who wish to embark on the missionary work of the Confraternity but who do not feel called to the ministerial priesthood, and who may not yet have any qualification, after their initial spiritual formation as postulants and novices, will be helped to gain their qualifications in the trade or profession to which they feel attracted or to which they show aptitude.
While receiving this training, their ongoing spiritual formation is not neglected, so that they are given the opportunity to deepen their own spiritual and theological knowledge and also to gain a greater understanding of their vocation.
In the spirit of the Confraternity of Christ the Priest, all members, priests and non-priests, are united in their zeal for souls and each one makes full use of the particular gifts that God has given him to join with his brothers as a team member in union with Christ the Priest to bring to all people, particularly the churchless millions, His message of eternal hope and salvation.
